Paddle for the Cure details.
Adult races will cover a 5k course starting at YMCA Camp Thunderbird on Lake Wylie, SC. Racers will paddle South along the shoreline, headed toward Pier 88/ River Hills Marina. At the marina, racers will round a turnaround buoy and paddle back to YMCA Camp Thunderbird. The Youth division (Ages 12-17) will be a combined, sit-in or sit-on kayak, paddle board race. Youth division racers will paddle a 2k course that is within the adult race course. Medals will be given out to the top 3 races in each division.
New for the 3rd Annual Paddle for the Cure a 10K course for Paddleboards and Kayaks will cover the 5K course out to River Hills Marina. It will come back out of the cove and go around South Point and up into Crowders Creek. It will head back down Crowders Creek along the southern shore and a turn for home buoy will bring paddlers back to South Point where the course will head north along the shore and reconnect to the 5K course. The course will be marked with buoys and it will start at and return to YMCA Camp Thunderbird.
Paddle for the Cure is much more than a day of kayak/paddle board races. You do not have to race to come watch the races or browse the booths at the pavilion. Bring the whole family for live music, food, a silent auction, and children’s activities. Free T-shirt and lunches are included for all race paddlers.
Proceeds from the event benefit Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust (CART).
